About Me

I'm Kara Wight and I am the founder of For The Love Of Paws. I am passionate about helping your big pawed friend or overprotective guardian who may be aggressive, anxious or over-aroused dog.

By building confidence, focus and calmness whilst channeling that drive, I can help you live a happy life with your four legged friend!!

As a child, I've always had a passion for animals, especially dogs. I was lucky enough to grow up with German Shepherds and as an adult I have always adopted big dogs. One of my German Shepherd's, Asha, had fear reactivity issues and when she sadly passed when I was aged 20, I decided I had to follow my path and study animals.

After studying animal care, I decided to adopt another rescue, my big bear Leo. He ignited my passion and I furthered my studies. I gained my degree and directed the modules into canine behaviour. I then followed my journey to become a dog trainer and behaviourist. I studied as much as I could and never looked back and went on to start my pet sitting and training service. I focused on training, training walks and pet sitting.

When Leo sadly passed this broke me, but as always he sparked my passion to focus fully on dogs. I redesigned my business as For The Love Of Paws and, as he was my spark, he is also my logo. I have now adopted two oversea rescue dogs who are now part of my journey and I love seeing them grow and flourish. With all my big dogs at the heart of For The Love Of Paws my business has grown and expanded into offering behaviour support programmes, training programmes and group classes.

I took the pledge to myself to help as many dogs as I possibly can and I truly believe all dogs and guardians should be able to live an enjoyable and happy life together.

I have worked hands on with dogs for over 12 years, although studied much longer. Working with canine behaviour is not a job or career, it is my passion.

Although I work on lots of issues, I enjoy working with big reactive dogs and building up their confidence levels. I focus on high drive dogs who become hypervigilant or overaroused by the external environment.

I believe in channeling the dogs natural drive into their learning in order for them to be fully calm, focused and confident. I also believe in giving dogs choices in learning which can help improve their mental state.

I value education and continue my professional development by completing seminars and courses which only use force free techniques and provide proven results. I ensure I am kept up to date by attending at least 4 courses per year plus webinars and video studies. I am also currently completing a Level 5 Advanced Diploma as CPD. (For a full list of completed courses please see section below). I am fully ensured to work as dog behaviourist and trainer.

I do it all for my love of paws!!!!!!
